Oil-Mist Studies, Environmental Evaluation and Control

Abstract
A series of air-sampling surveys were conducted in the pressrooms of the New York Times. They provided the quantitative data needed for the determination of the time-weighted average ink-mist exposures for the pressroom personnel, the particle-size distribution of the ink mist and the fraction "respirable," the variation of the particle concentration and size parameters with press type, production rate, and operational cycle, and the effectiveness of pilot installations of ink-mist control equipment applied to presses at the New York Times and other newspapers, including both electrostatic mist suppressors at the ink rollers and local exhaust ventilation.
