Culture and the Disability Services

Abstract
This chapter presents basic information about key concepts related to cultural diversity among foreign-born persons. Examples relevant to the practice of disability service providers are provided in each section. These concepts will assist the reader in understanding the culture-brokering model presented in the next chapter. Also included in this chapter is a discussion of concepts related to foreign-born consumers and rehabilitation services. This chapter should be viewed as a starting point for understanding and providing culturally sensitive services to foreign-born consumers.
