On an enzyme from blow-fly larvae [Lucilia sericata] which digests collagen in alkaline solution

Abstract

Collagen and elastin were both di-gested by the excretion of the larvae. The enzyme is produced by the cells of the mid-gut. The optimum reaction for the collagen is pH 8.5, and the activity de-creases as the acidity increases.
