Lack of Association between Cirrhosis and the Common Types of Color Blindness

Abstract

A RELATIVELY large number of color-vision abnormalities have recently been observed in alcoholic patients with cirrhosis, and the suggestion has been advanced that the X-linked genes causing color blindness predispose to cirrhosis of the liver in alcoholic patients¹ and to alcoholism.² To investigate this relation further, a group of alcoholic patients with cirrhosis in Seattle was studied for color-vision defects.Materials and MethodsTwenty-two female and 24 male alcoholic patients with Laennec's cirrhosis were studied.
