INCREASED OXYGEN CONSUMPTION, AND SUCCIN-OXIDASE ACTIVITY OF LIVER TISSUE AFTER EXPOSURE OF RATS TO COLD1

Abstract
The O2 consumption of liver slices, and the succinoxidase activity of liver tissue homogenates, are significantly higher after rats have been exposed to air temp. of 2[degree] C for periods of 16 days to 14 mos. The metabolic activity of the liver (and presumably other non-muscular tissue) is increased by exposure to a cold environment. The mechanisms involved are discussed.
