THE EFFECTS OF ADRENALECTOMY AND REPLACEMENT THERAPY ON THE SERUM PROTEIN LEVELS OF THE CAT

Abstract
In cats, adreno-cortical insufficiency is associated with an increased serum globulin level which is due to the accompanying hemoconc. The serum albumin level decreased despite the hemoconc, indicating a marked loss of this substance from the circulation. Revival of cats from insufficiency by means of adrenal cortical extract or desoxycorticosterone acetate returned the serum proteins toward the normal concs. The conclusion is drawn that adrenal cortical hormone regulates the maintenance of the serum albumin level but not that of the serum globulin.
