Abstract
Adult [male] and [female] rats (7-8 mos. old) were gonadectomized. In addition, [male][male] of the same age were rendered cryptorchid by abdominal anchorage of the testes. Two months later the anterior hypophyses were removed from these animals and implanted into young [female] rats 24 days. old. A total of 4 glands from these animals was implanted in 2 successive days and the host animals killed on the 4th day of the experiment. The hormone content of the anterior lobes was measured by the reaction upon the [female] hosts. Anterior hypophyses from gonadectomized [male][male] and [female][female] both showed higher hormone content than the normal;[long dash]ovariectomized [female][female] 6 times that of normals, castrated [male][male] 2% times that of normal [male][male]. Cryptorchid [male] hypophyses gave intermediate results, showing a relation between anterior hypophyses and spermatogenic, rather than interstitial tissue.
