Thyroid Function and Mortality in Patients Treated for Hyperthyroidism

Abstract
Hyperthyroidism is a common disorder affecting approximately 2% of women and 0.2% of men.1 It exerts a major influence on the circulatory system with cardiovascular symptoms and signs being prominent.2 The development of atrial fibrillation is one of the most significant manifestations of hyperthyroidism, being reported in 5% to 15% of those who have it. Increasing evidence suggests that mortality, especially from circulatory disease, is also increased in hyperthyroidism.
