STUDIES IN METHIONINE METABOLISM. III. THE FATE OF INTRAVENOUSLY ADMINISTERED S35-LABELED-METHIONINE IN NORMAL ADULT MALES, IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC HEPATIC DISEASE, “IDIOPATHIC” HYPOPROTEINEMIA AND CUSHING'S SYNDROME 1

Abstract
When S35-labeled methionine was administered to normal subjects in a tracer dosage of 25 or 50uc it was incorporated into plasma protein and red blood cells, and S35 labeled inorganic sulfate was excreted in the urine, at predictable rates. In patients with chronic liver disease the S35 was incorporated into plasma protein more slowly than in the normal, but in patients with Cushing''s syndrome and in one individual with "idiopathic" hypoproteinemia the rate of incorporation was significantly accelerated. Observations are also included on the effect of testosterone propionate upon S metabolism.
