Abstract
The American College of Surgeons/National Institutes of Health Organ Transplant Registry began collecting information on nonrenal organ transplants in 1969. Return of this information to transplant teams has been accomplished in quarterly newsletters and this is the first scientific report to be published from the new registry. This report describes survival results and some other information regarding heart, liver, lung, bone marrow, and pancreas transplants. More detailed information obtained from analysis of data other than that pertaining to survival may be prepared in the future at the request of the various organ transplant advisory committees. An organ transplant registry can serve the scientific community only in proportion to the meticulous care with which transplantors prepare their reports and send them to the registry.
