Miscellaneous ObservationsAt the time of writing, several initial observations have been made that are of great potential interest. Spock et al.,¹⁶⁸ while studying the effect of serums of patients with cystic fibrosis on human and animal respiratory-tract epithelium in tissue culture, observed that such specimens resulted in an asymmetrical or "jerky" ciliary beats. They studied the ciliary activity by placing a tissue-culture expiant with a ciliary border on a glass slide and exposing the border to serum.
