The polarographic estimation of steroid hormones

Abstract
Urinary neutral 17-ketosteroids (urinary androgens) can be estimated by polarography of their water soluble hy-drazones prepared by condensation with tetramethylammo-nium acethydrazide chloride. "Spreading" of the polarographic wave by decreasing the rate of increase of applied potential facilitates assessment of the point of inflection. Oxidation of the urinary extract with KMnO4 before polarography removes considerable interfering material. The normal content was found to be 15.7 mg./24 hrs. with a s.d. of 2.47 mg.
