Abstract
In order to gain further information concerning the nature of the electrons in we have measured the polarization-dependent reflectivity and evaluated the optical constants in the range 0.7-10 eV. The -electron homopolar bonding between cation pairs plays a crucial role in the semiconductor-to-metal transition observed in this material at about 400°K. Comparison is made with recent joint-density-of-states calculations and good agreement is found thus enabling an assignment of the -electron interband transitions to be made.
