Absorption of 3-methylglucose from the small intestine of the rat and the cat

Abstract
The rate of absorption of 3-methylglucose in rats was found to be about 16% slower than that of glucose. In cats 3-methylglucose was found to be absorbed against a concn. gradient. Since 3-methylglucose is not glycogenic in the rat, it is suggested that phosphorylation is not the only mechanism of active absorption, either in the rat or in the cat.
