Point contact spectroscopy of intermediate valence compounds

Abstract
We measured the dynamic resistance dU/dI (U) of point contacts with intermediate valent (IV) ‘‘gold’’ SmS and IV ferromagnetic TmSe0.82Te0.18 at liquid helium temperatures. Similar as for IV SmB6 and TmSe, on which we reported earlier, dU/dI (U) for ‘‘gold’’ SmS exhibits a strong resistance peak at zero bias with a width of 6.5 mV, which we take as further evidence for a f–d hybridization gap in the electron density of states in these compounds. The results on TmSe0.82Te0.18 support our measurements on TmSe, where we found that a gap exists in the antiferromagnetic but not in the ferromagnetic phase. In addition we report on point contact measurements on CePd3.
