6—The Determination of Fatty Matter in Scoured Wool and Wool Tops

Abstract
The determination of residual grease, soap constituents and other fatty material in scoured wool, card slivers, tops, etc., by means of solvent extraction is critically examined, especially in relation to the technical implication of the results obtained. A comparison is made between Soxhlet extraction and extraction by the Wool Industries Research Association rapid extraction apparatus. Certain anomalies in the results are discussed.
