Identification of Six Endogenous Gibberellins in Spinach Shoots

Abstract
Analysis of highly purified extracts from spinach shoots by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry demonstrated the presence of six 13-C-hydroxylated (GA): GA53, GA44, GA19, GA17, GA20 and GA29. The major GA were GA17, GA19 and GA20, while the other 3 GA occurred in trace amounts. Structural considerations suggest that the 6 GA identified in spinach are related in the following metabolic sequence: GA53 .fwdarw. GA44 .fwdarw. GA19 .fwdarw. GA17 .fwdarw. GA20 .fwdarw. GA29.
