The Structure of Chick Lens Water-Insoluble Material

Abstract
The structure of chick lens water-insoluble material was analysed by electron microscopy before and after treatment with 8 m urea. It was concluded that the water-insoluble material consists of cell membranes and a matrix of morphologically distinct chains and filaments. Treatment with 8 M urea solubilized the matrix (albuminoid) which contained α-, β- and δ- crystallins.
