Abstract
The manual for the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA) cites a study of concurrent validity. A partial replication of the study yielded lower means and larger standard deviations for five of the MSCA scales and for the Stanford-Binet. There was close agreement between the Stanford-Binet 1972 norms mean IQ and the MSCA general cognitive index. Correlations between the MSCA and the Stanford-Binet were higher than those cited in the manual, except for the perceptual-performance scales. Limited evidence is presented to support the hypothesis that the MSCA and the Stanford-Binet measure much the same ability. Keywords
