A GaAs8×8 CROSS-POINT SWITCH FOR HIGH SPEED DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS

Abstract
Design of a 1.9 Gbits/s, 8×8 cross-point switch using nonself-aligned 1 µm D-MESFET GaAs technology is presented. An 8×1 switch bit-slice was fabricated and tested. Experimental results are provided to verify the functionality and performance of the bit-slice. The bit-slice occupies an area of 0.512×0.711 mm 2 (including the 50 Ω output drivers and excluding the input/output pads) dissipating 192 mW of power (including the output drivers). The performance of the 8×8 cross-point is estimated on the basis of the performance of the 8×1 bit-slice.
