Retention of transfer in motor learning after twenty-four hours and after fourteen months.

Abstract
Acquisition and retention of a transfer task were studied as a function of two variables: degree of learning of the training task and similarity between tasks. After learning both tasks, the transfer task was relearned, once after a 24-hr. interval and again after an interval of approximately 14 months. Found that transfer was positive and varied significantly with both degree of first task learning and intertask similarity. Comparing the 24-hr. and 14 month groups found in general that the results tend to support the hypothesis that proactive inhibition increases as the retention interval increases.
