Effect of 120 MeV 16O Ion Irradiation at Low Temperatures on Superconducting Properties of YBa2Cu3O7-x and La1.8Sr0.2CuO4

Abstract
YBa2Cu3O7-x and La1.8Sr0.2CuO4 are irradiated at low temperatures with 120 MeV 16O ions up to fluences of 1.6×1015/cm2 and 2.4×1015/cm2, respectively. With increasing O ion fluence, the transition temperature decreases and the electrical resistance above T c increases monotonically. The annealing experiments performed after irradiation show that in YBa2Cu3O7-x the recovery of the electrical resistance occurs above ∼160 K, and this recovery leads to the recovery of T c. In La1.8Sr0.2CuO4, no recovery of electrical resistance is found up to 300 K.
