Abstract
Lattice vibrations in (La1-x Sr x )2CuO4 (x=0-0.1) and oxygen deficient La2CuO4 are investigated by infrared reflection spectroscopy. Holes generated by the substitution of Sr and electrons generated by the oxygen deficiency cause a similar change in the infrared spectra. On the assumption of very good two dimensionality, this change is interpreted as the screening of the electric field accompanying the infrared active phonons with polarization in the basal plane. The phonon modes are tentatively assigned.
