Long-term Outcomes of Keratolimbal Allograft for Total Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency Using Combined Immunosuppressive Agents and Correction of Ocular Surface Deficits

Abstract
The maintenance of a healthy corneal epithelium relies on stem cells located at the limbus.1,2 When limbal stem cells or their supporting stromal environment is destroyed, corneal blindness occurs.3 Histologically, corneas with limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD) carry the hallmark of conjunctivalization associated with chronic inflammation, superficial neovascularization, scarring, and poor epithelial integrity.4,5 Consequently, patients with LSCD experience severe photophobia and decreased vision.
