Lead and Arsenic Ingestion and Excretion in Man

Abstract
A study was made of 9 healthy adult [male] orchardists who ate Pb arsenate sprayed apples during an exptl. period of 10-12 days. Samples of the fruit eaten and daily urine and fecal specimens were analyzed for Pb and As. The potential intake of these elements as well as the amts. eliminated daily was detd. Comparison of the results of this study with those obtained earlier by Fairhall and Neal (Pub._ Health Rep.. 53 1231 (1938)) showed that in both studies by far the largest part of the Pb was eliminated in the feces. In most cases the fecal arsenic equalled or exceeded the urinary arsenic output and apparent retention of Pb and As occurred. Explanations for these differences in behavior were suggested.
