Abstract
The immunosuppressive effects of 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA) given intratracheally correlated with susceptibility of some inbred strains of mice to MCA-induced carcinogenesis. In susceptible strains of mice, C3Hf and C57BL/6, intratracheal administration of MCA resulted in profound systemic immunodepression. This effect was not observed in resistant DBA/2 mice. This immunodepressive effect correlated with the inducibility of the aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase enzyme complex and the inducibility of pulmonary tumors by MCA.
