Precise Determination of the Magnetic Moment of the Deuteron

Abstract

A precision measurement of the ratio of the magnetic moment of the proton to that of the deuteron has been carried out by the magnetic resonance method. The measurements were made using mixtures of ${\mathrm{H}}_2$O and ${\mathrm{D}}_2$O and also mixtures of ${\mathrm{H}}_2$ and ${\mathrm{D}}_2$ gas. The result for the ${\mathrm{H}}_2$O:${\mathrm{D}}_2$O mixture is $\mathrm{while}\mathrm{for}\mathrm{the} {\mathrm{H}}_2:{\mathrm{D}}_2 \mathrm{mixture} \{\frac{{\mu }_{\mathrm{H}}}{{\mu }_{\mathrm{D}}}=3.2571999\mathrm{}\pm 0.0000012,\}\{\frac{{\mu }_{\mathrm{H}}}{{\mu }_{\mathrm{D}}}=3.2571990\mathrm{}\pm \mathrm{0.0000010.}\}$
