Congenital Cardiac Malformations in the Neonatal Period

Abstract
IN a recent study1 , 2 from New York of 5964 pregnancies with 6053 births, 433 products of conception, or 7.5 per cent, were found to have congenital malformations. These malformations were classified by systems, and 50 of the 6053 babies, or 0.83 per cent, had malformations of the cardiovascular system. When the rate was calculated in relation to age at the time of death, cardiovascular malformations were present in 7.7 per cent of infants who were either stillborn or who died within the first month, but this fell to 0.6 per cent in infants who survived for more than a month. . . .
