Abstract
Normally the extent of hemolysis in vivo subsequent to plasmapheresis exps. on dogs is so small as to be scarcely discernible by the naked eye. The benzidine micro-colorimetric method, dependent upon the pseudo-peroxidase activity of Hb, was satisfactorily adapted to determine the concns. of free Hb in plasma. One of the 1st signs of blood incompatibilities developing between dogs of different hematological groups is marked hemolysis in vivo. Although the initial infusion of red blood cells results in a negligible laking of the erythrocytes, a subsequent injection approximately 2 wks. later is characterized by a marked hemolysis in vivo which fails to be related proportionally to the amt. of cells injected.
