A QUANTITATIVE STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF THYROTROPIN UPON THE THYROIDAL SECRETION RATE IN EUTHYROID AND THYROTOXIC SUBJECTS*

Abstract
Various dosages of thyrotropin were studied in 20 euthyroid and 10 thyrotoxic human subjects. The average daily intramuscular dose at which an increased secretion rate was 1st observed was 1.75 USP units in the euthyroid patients and 10 units in the thyrotoxic patients. In both groups stimulation of thyroidal secretion began well before the 24th hour following an effective dose. A period of inhibition began 24 hours after the last injection.
