Measurement of the Blood Velocity by a Laser-doppler System with an Optical Fiber

Abstract
This is the first report of the successful measurement of the pulsed blood velocity in the right femoral artery of a mongrel dog, using a laser doppler velocimeter with anoptical fiber pick-up. A 150-m long fiber was used to reach the animal experiment laboratory from the measuring setup. The features of the velocimeter are the flexible access to objects and the high spatial resolution (∼100um).
