Insecticidal Properties of Some New Chlorinated Organic Compounds

Abstract
Preliminary data are summarized on the physical and insecticidal properties of 3 chlorinated organic compounds isolated by the process of chromatographic absorption from the mixture known as technical chlordane. The compounds with their technical designations are referred to as I, II, and III. Compound III is an oxygenated derivative of II. Tests were conducted against the housefly, roaches, grasshoppers, and various bugs and beetles. Rather extensive tests on 10 spp. of insects show the relative toxicity of the materials to be in the following descending order: III, II = I = gamma benzene hexachloride, chlordane, chlorinated camphene, DDT. The residual effectiveness of the materials seems to fall in the descending order: III, DDT, II, I = chlordane, gamma benzene hexachloride.
