Control of the Serpentine Leaf Miner on Peppers

Abstract

In 1950 control of the serpentine leaf miner was obtained with the following dusts: 5% chlordan, 2.5% aldrin, and 2.5% dieldrin, applied at weekly intervals. During 1952 the best leaf miner control was obtained with 2% parathion dusts applied at 4-day intervals. EPN, metacide, and Systox also show promise as controls for the serpentine leaf miners attacking peppers. Data also show the DDT, TDE, and methoxychlor tend to build up leaf miner infestations. A leaf miner parasite, Derostenus sp., was reared from serpentine leaf miner infestations found on blackeyed peas, peppers, and cantaloupes.
