Tension Pneumocephalus Complicating Craniofacial Surgery in a Shunted Hydrocephalic Patient

Abstract
In a shunted hydrocephalic patient, a craniofacial operation that involves the frontal or paranasal air sinuses may be complicated by tension pneumocephalus, a life-threatening condition that is promoted by the functioning shunt. The diagnosis is confirmed by a computed tomographic scan. The treatment consists of aspirating the air mass and increasing the resistance in the shunting device.
