Zur Kenntnis der Gehirnceramide und der darin vorkommenden Sphingosinbasen

Abstract
The ceramide mixture from human brain was separated into 3 fractions. One contained o-hydroxy fatty acids, the other unsubstituted long chain fatty acids, and the 3rd contained stearic acid as the fatty acid component. In the first 2 fractions C18-sphingosine was practically the only sphingosine base. Both C18- and C20-sphingosine were found in the 3rd fraction. Findings were discussed in connection with the metabolism of the gangliosides and cerebrosides of the brain.
