Methods for the culture of Amoeba, Arcella, Actinosphaerium, Stylonichia, Oxytricha, Chilomonas, Paramoecium, Colpidium, Colpoda, Euplotes, Didinium, Euglena, Hydra, Stenostomum, Pianaria, Philodina, Cyclops, Daphnia, Naias, Aelosoma, and Dero are described. A general stock culture solution, diluted 1:10 with distilled water before use, consisting of NaCl 12 g., KC1 0.03 g., CaCl2 0.04 g., NaHCO3 0.2 g., Phosphate buffer solution of a pH 6.9-7, 50 cc, distilled water to 1000 cc. and added to a rice-agar base in finger bowls, is suggested for most of the protozoa. For ciliates, such as Paramoecium and Colpidium, and Euplotes, a medium of egg yolk in water is found useful.
