Abstract
A new term is added to the Ginzburg-Landau free energy which modifies the boundary condition for the order parameter. The new boundary condition is applied to the case of thin films, where it successfully explains the decrease in the critical temperature observed in samples of Nb, Pb, and Bi. The theory allows for a simple calculation of the response to applied magnetic fields. A microscopic analysis of the new term is given. Keywords
