Studies on 3-indoleacetic acid metabolism. VII. Metabolism of radioactive 3-indoleacetic acid by pea roots

Abstract
Studies of the metabolism of indoleacetic acid by pea roots using IAA labeled in the side chain (IAA-1-C14 or IAA-2-C14) or in the indole nucleus (IAA-7a-C14) revealed that indoleacetylaspartic acid was the only metabolite which accumulated in the tissues and that the products of IAA degradation occurred entirely in the culture solution. Three decarboxylation products were recognized, none of which gave a positive indole reaction with the Salkowski or Ehrlich reagent.
