The chemical constituents of Australian Flindersia species. VI. The structure and chemisty of Flindersine

Abstract
The alkaloid, flindersine, is shown to be 2',2'-dimethyl-α-pyrano(5',6'-3,4)-2-quinolone and some aspects of its chemistry are discussed. The constitutions of some derivatives of 4-hydroxy-2-quinolone are clarified and the synthesis of dictamnic acid is described. The synthesis confirms the structure previously suggested for dictamnine.
