Piezoelectric Effects in Liquid Crystals

Abstract
A theory of the relationship between curvature strains and electric polarization in liquid crystals is developed in analogy to piezoelectric theory in ordinary crystals. The theory may explain some recently observed phenomena in nematic liquid crystals.Keywords
