Abstract
This paper describes research into the suitability of the explosive FOX-7 in the development of insensitive munitions. The analysis of experimental cylinder test data to generate a JWL equation of state and Gurney energy is described and the results compared with other published data. The JWL and Gurney energy are then used in analytical and hydrocode simulations to assess FOX-7 performance in fragmenting and slow stretching jet warheads and compared against other high performance explosives. The results of experiments to validate the simulations are presented and discussed. Keywords
