This note contains information on the properties of epitaxial thin films of the high temperature YBaCuO compound superconductors. Some thoughts regarding critical current and mechanisms of vortex pinning are presented. It is suggested that one of the more effective mechanism of pinning is associated with a random distribution of defects which perturb the condensation energy. The defects are on the scale of the coherence length.
