Abstract
In 7 consecutive cases of untreated myxedema, coexistent carotinemia was found. This may be part of the typical clinical picture and may explain the "yellowish" color of the skin so frequently observed. The carotinemia tends to clear gradually under treatment with thyroid substance. Carotinemia occurred in a case of Simmonds'' disease, and the suggestion is made that it frequently accompanies a low B.M.R. The probable explanation is that the conversion of carotin to Vit. A in the liver is hindered by the depressing effect of the lowered metabolism.
