Abstract
The results of a series of experiments designed to extend certain aspects of Runner''s finding that maternal fasting in the house mouse is a teratogenic agent indicate that this effect is not strain specific; similar treatment produced the same array of skeletal defects in fetuses of the C57BL/6 Jax and LG/Rr strains. The frequency of defects in the C57BL/6 Jax strain is significantly lower than that obtained in the 129/Rr strain. In addition, the maximum frequency of defects appears to occur in the 129/Rr strain a day later than in the C57BL/6 Jax strain.
