THE INFLUENCE OF BILE SALTS ON GIARDIA INFECTIONS IN RATS1

Abstract
Four expts. were performed involving 97 rats infected with G. muris. Rats were fed on a. normal diet and a normal diet containing Na glycocholate, Na. taurocholate or oleic acid. The number of giardias increased in rats treated with Na glycocholate but not in those treated with Na taurocholate; and de-creased in those treated with oleic acid. In bile-salts rats the giardias were present throughout the small intestine; in the others, only 15 cm. behind the stomach and beyond.
