Abstract
PHENYLBUTAZONE (3, 5-dioxo-l, 2–diphenyl4-n-butyl-pyrazolidin sodium) is a pyrazolon derivative with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.1 Its formula is as follows: Success with this drug in the treatment of gout has previously been reported by Gutman and Yü,2 by Kuzell et al.,3 , 4 and by Steinbrocker and his associates.5 In the past year we have observed its effects in 26 male adult patients with gouty arthritis, of whom 10 had acute arthritis and 16 chronic joint disease.MethodsPatients with acute arthritis were seen on an outpatient basis; patients with chronic diseases were hospitalized, when indicated, on the medical wards at the Veterans . . .Keywords
