Connective Tissue III. Collagen and Hexosamine Content of Tissues of Rats of Different Ages.

Abstract
The relation of age to collagen and hexosamine content of aorta, tendon and skin was studied in rats from 4 weeks to 2-1/2 years of age. Collagen content in the skin increases gradually between 4 weeks and 8 months, while in aorta and tendon the increment occurs between 4 and 8 weeks. Hexosamine content increased with age in the aorta and decreased with age in the tendon and skin. Therefore, there is no change in H/C ratio in the aorta and decreased H/C ratio in tendon and skin.
