The Internal Thoracic Muscle and the Lateral Chest Roentgenogram

Abstract
Attention is drawn to a crescentic soft-tissue density often seen on the lateral roentgenogram of the chest. This shadow overlies the anterior, lower portion of the heart just behind the sternum. On the basis of the present study this density is believed to represent the internal thoracic muscle. This anatomical structure should not be confused with an intrathoracic abnormality.
