In Vitro Activity and Blood Concentration Studies with a Series of Phenoxyalkylpenicillins

Abstract
Certain characteristics of the different a-phenoxyalkylpenicillins starting with phenoxymethyl and ending with phenoxyhyl and ending with phenoxyhexyl-penicillin varied with the length and configuration of the side chain. With increasing chain length the activity decreased, the sensitivity to penicillinase from staphylococci diminished and the serum concentrations increased and were maintained longer. The iso-forms of the propyl and butyl analogues showed more pronounced changes than the normal forms.
