Applications of the Hellmann-Feynman theorem in surface physics

Abstract
We present a generalized version of the Hellmann-Feynman theorem which is then applied to problems in surface physics. In particular, we derive a number of exact results for an atom adsorbed on a surface. The limitations of the theorem are also discussed.Keywords
